Sommelier Competition Ontario

After the success of the format in the US, the Austrian Wine “Sommelier Competition” took place for the first time in Canada. In autumn 2023, Austrian Wine travelled to Montréal (Québec) and Toronto (Ontario) to find the best sommelier of each province.

The first round of the competition took place in Montréal. Here, the competition was open to all sommeliers in the province of Québec.

Procedure

  • To register for the competition, sommeliers first had to qualify by taking an online preliminary exam.
  • Afterwards, the sommeliers had the opportunity to learn more about Austrian wine in a seminar led by Christopher Sealy.
  • After the competition, where they demonstrated their knowledge and skills, one winner was honoured with the opportunity to travel to Austria for VieVinum 2024 to learn more about wine and Austria as a wine country.
